What Causes Fever With Sore Throat And Headache?

Hello

My son woke up with slight fever and has gotten as high as 103.3. Right now we are maintaining a temp of about 102.3. Last night he complained of head ache but no fever and this morning he was complaining of throat soreness and thats when we discovered the fever. He is seven years old. Do you think ER is necessary? We are giving him tylenol and advil in between we were not able to find motrin apparently its been recalled.

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hello. Thank you for your question. The symptoms you describe could be due to a virus. These ultimately resolve on their own with fluids, rest, and a fever reducer if necessary. They could also be due, however, to a bacterial infection, most commonly Strep. This type of infection requires antibiotics. I recommend consuming with your doctor so the correct diagnosis can be made and the appropriate treatment plan implemented.
