What Causes Fever,headache And Sore Throat?

My 12 year old daughter has had a fever 4 days between 100 - 104.6. Avereraging about 102 on tylenol and Motrin. She is currently taking tylenol and Motrin rotating every 4 hours. We took her to the er 3 days ago and they couldnt find anything. Gave her a shot of septra (Some kind of antibiotic starting with an S) and she is taking Amoxicillian for 10 days twice a day. She is vomiting, has a sore throat, back and headache. The er said her throat did not look bad. They did a urine sample and it was normal. Lung xray was normal. No blood work was done. She is really feeling bad and tired. Do you think she needs to go back to the Dr? We are out of town and cannot see our primary care manager.

Hi...Thank you for consulting in Health Care magic.

Fever of few days without any localizing signs could as well a viral illness. Usually rather than fever, what is more important is the activity of the child, in between 2 fever episodes on the same day. If the kid is active and playing around when there is no fever, it is probably viral illness and it doesn't require antibiotics at all. Once viral fever comes it will there for 4-7 days. So do not worry about duration if the kid is active.

Paracetamol can be given in the dose of 15mg/kg/dose every 4-6th hourly that too only if fever is more than 100F. I suggest not using combination medicines for fever, especially with Paracetamol.
