What Causes Flatus During Defecation?

I have frequent flatus where fecal matter is expelled, to the point where I do not dare to expel gas unless I am on the toilet. Sometimes small ribbons (like flat toothpaste) end up in the toilet and often it is very explosive into the toilet, as if being spit out, making a mess in the toilet (due to the explosion). This is VERY embarrassing because it is also quite loud. I am plagued with this problem often, in fact it s nearly constant....I will have a few days without these symptoms and then it returns. Some days it is difficult to go anywhere, or do much of anything. On the days that I have these symptoms I also have pain from the gas & bloating, and sometimes have bowel cramping. Occasionally I will have severe rectal pain & it feels as if there is a hard ball in there....this usually precedes a bowel movement where the pain slowly diminishes. I have also had this last symptom of sharp rectal/anal pain without the explosive stool symptoms being present. I know that I have hemorrhoids, I don t remember if I have internal as well as external but they do bother me and cause me trouble with cleaning myself as well. My gastro doc said I may want to consider getting that fixed, but my primary care physician said it s not necessary at this time. I m not sure who s advice to adhere to. My pcp mentioned something about a common bile duct problem in regard to the toothpaste or ribbon like stool & said he would look up my recent gastric workup test results, (colonoscopy and EGD) and get back to me, only he forgot that he said that. Any thoughts?
