What Causes Flesh Colored Lump Hanging From The Back Of Mouth?

I have a flesh coloured lump hanging down from the right hand side of the back of mouth .
It feels like I have a hair permanently lodged there , until tonight I have just thought that it was just this . But I have looked in the mirror and it's a lump hanging over the back touching my tongue , really irritating me .
What is it ? Can I have it removed ?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern.

Thanks for your query . There can be two possibilities for the skin hanging at the back of your mouth. Either it can be mucous retention cyst or it is a flap of mucosa that appeared due to injury to mucosa.

Sometimes the duct of salivarygland gets block and form mucocele , which appear as a flap hanging .

There is nothing harmful in both cases . I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist (ear, nose, throat) for proper examination . Doctor may cut the flap under local anesthesia .

If it is a mucocele then excision of gland is done or simple drainage can solve the purpose (marsupilization).

Hope your concern has been resolved.
