Hi
Welcome to the HCM

I can understand your concerns. High potassium levels are to be treated as soon as possible because they can cause some serious problems with electrical conductivity of the heart. The causes can be many depending upon the clinical situation. It may be due to transcellular shifts from cells to plasma like in acidosis, increased intakes or poor excretion by impaired renal functions.

The treatment needs a keen monitoring of levels and corrections such as sodium bicarbonate, calcium infusions, potassium binding agents. Also the underlying cause needs to be addressed.

It needs a proper ICU monitoring and intensivist care.

Hopefully this will help you.
Take care
