Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Fluctuations In Alanine Aminotransferase (ALT) Levels, Taking Avonex For MS?
My ALT has been mildly elevated, off and on, for the last year. Now the level is at 112, which is the highest that it has been. I have a history of MS and I am on Avonex, however my neurologist does not think it is related because the last two values were high normal. She states that it would be consistent if it was related to the Avonex. My primary physician says she doesn t think it s a problem. I have a very occasional wine when out, maybe one a month.? I could probably count the number of times I have had beer in my life on one hand. It has all been within the last year, brews are better than they were back in HS and college. BTW, I am a 63 year old female. I walk but not consistently. My diet is so-so. What do you recommend? How shall I follow up? Thanks for your answer.
Hi, Welcome to Health care magic forum. You are 63 years of age, and have a rise of ALT gradually, it means liver is getting changed slowly. I advise you to consult a gastroenterologist for diagnosis and treatment. You may need to have other liver function tests and ultrasound for diagnosis. Avoid fats, oils, alcohol, and spicy foods and junk foods. Take more of green leafy vegetables, pulses, sprouts and protein rich foods. wishing for a quick and complete recovery. Thank you.
