What Causes Focal Seizure, Convulse And Excessive Sleepiness After Radiation And Chemo Therapies?

My husband was diagnosed with benign Grade II Astrocytoma in March of 2015. The tumor is in his frontal lobe and was inoperable. Did 6 weeks of whole-brain radiation (5 days a week). After 5 weeks of the radiation therapy his right hand/arm started trembling so bad he dropped his drink. Doctor called this a focal seizure and prescribed an anticonvulsant. Started chemotherapy (215 mg Temodar) 5/23 schedule on 6/23. Had no problem except his right arm/hand convulse several times per hour every day even though he is taking this medication. Started second round of chemo (290 mg. Temodar) 5/23 and now he sleeps almost 20 hours a day. Is all this normal for what is supposed to be a benign slow growing tumor?

Ophthalmologist 's  Response
Hi,

Any meds to the brain can cause it also. If there is any associated pathology like hypertension, it can occur.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Harshita, Ophthalmologist
