What Causes Food Stuck In Throat?

Every now and then food gets caught in my throat. Last week was the worst. Had chicken which I thought was well chewed got stuck. Usually goes down after a few minutes. This lasted over night. No problem breathing or talking, just could not swallow. This article says get DGL, Deglcyrrhizated Licorice Tablets. At this point I am willing to try anything. Look forward to your answer.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
This looks to be a problem related to either of the following and needs proper clinical evaluation, examination and investigations:
- Local anatomical problem like enlarged mass or so
- Neurological problem like incoordination due to some nerve palsy.

I would advise you the following:
Upper GI along with Laryngopharyngoscopy.
Thick Barium swallow tests under fluoroscopy.
-MRI of the area
-CT of the brain to rule out any central nervous system problems.

This will help us to get a proper diagnosis and get a proper treatment.
I find this answer helpful
