What Causes Frequent Bowel Movements?

For about the past 4-8 weeks I have been having more bowel movements than usual. I almost never feel as if my bowels are empty. If I do feel emptied out, the feeling does not last long. I have no other symptoms that I find listed for colon cancer; no blood in my stool, no especially thin stool. I am 67 years old with a family history of colon cancer. My last colonoscopy was three years ago and, at the time, my gastroenterologist said that I needn t have another for 4-5 years. I will be contacting my gastroenterologist tomorrow, but I am very worried about the possibility of cancer. Thank you

Colon cancer mostly gives changes in bowel movements as constipation alternating with diarrhea, changes in the size of the stool, occult blood in stool. You definite have a risk factor of it,but a negative colonoscopy is a good result. Other possibilities of increased bowel movement could be infection, colitis, lactose intolerance.
