What Causes Frequent Bowel Movements?

I have been having unusual bowel habits recently. I eliminate several times a day a little bit at a time. Stools are formed but narrow and soft. I have changed my eating habits as I am dieting. I have always eaten plenty and vegetables, but have never had this problem. I’ve always been regular.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Frequent and unusual bowel habits may be due to some emotional stress inside you leading to gastritis or it may even be a side effect of some medication you might be using. Kindly review, as stress may even lead to irritable bowel syndrome in which you may have this symptom. If none of these are the causes, then please consult gastroenterologist for further examination.

Thank you.
