What Causes Frequent Diarrhea And Lower Back Pain Despite Taking Medication?

I occasionally suffer from uncontrollable bouts of diarrhea. These bouts are accompanied by severe right side low back pain. To end it I must take an immodium. Sometimes two. I know I m lactose intolerant and act accordingly. Bouts also happen not to long after have hard stools.

Hello and Welcome to 'Ask A Doctor' service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

If the diarrhea is not due to any infection then it may not need any treatment neither it need to be stopped, passing the stool three to four time in day could be normal one if not associated with any symptoms of abdominal pain, vomiting, fever, back pain is not due to diarrhea, on tentative basis you can try single dose of anti-protozoa (Secnidazole 1 G) is enough, but it is important to confirm the diarrhea is due to some illness or it is due to diet, avoid taking Immodium it causes the paralytic ileus.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
