What Causes Frequent Urination And Weakness In The Legs?
Although there is a very prevelent strain of diabetes in the family, for the last 2 years I have been borderline when taking a oral glucose tolerance test. I am drinking more and urinating within 20-30 mins of drinking even a small cup of liquid. I am also tired, 50 year old woman, hypertensive (controlled with medication and simavastatin). My knees seem weak, and it appears they give way at times when I stand up after sitting for about 1/2hr, I also feel very stiff from the pelvic area down to my knees.
Internal Medicine Specialist, Dr. Divakara's Response
Hi There are many causes of frequent urination . One simple cause in you could be excess intake of water for no reason ( its called Primary polydipsia). Secondly recheck your blood sugars because uncontrolled diabetes can cause excess thirst and excess urine . Third get serum potassium tested as low potassium can explain your excess urine and leg weakness. Also one more condition called Diabetes insipidus can cause excess urine . I advise you to get urine osmolality tested. You also mentioned you take some medicine for hypertension. Kindly mention which as some medicine can cause excess urination thirst and leg weakness.
