What Causes Gagging And Loss Of Voice After A Tonsillectomy?

I am 2 months post tonsillectomy and my uvula and soft pallet are lower than it was before my surgery. I feel as though I m gagging all the time, as well as loosing my voice every other week. Will all of this go away in time or could there be another issue. I am 47 years old.

Hello,

Minor gagging usually settles down without active management. Voice alteration at 2 months is not normal and acceptable. It is related to enlarged dimension of the oropharynx post-operatively in some cases, needs thorough evaluation clinically.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Purva Patel
