What Causes Gastric Bloating, Cramps And Chest Discomfort?

My husband is having issues with his stomach. He has been dealing with gastric bloating, cramping and burning. It causes him chest discomfort and his throat burns. He has diarrhea for a couple of days and then constipated. It is worse when standing or with physical activity, but does not bother him when laying down. He takes omeprazol, however, it does not seem to make it any better. His dr continues to tell him that it is GERD, but wondering if it could be more of an IBS issue. He has had an EGD and 2 colonoscopies and they still can t tell him for sure why he is still having these symptoms. Please tell me what your opinion is.

Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history about your husband and understood the concerns.
Diarrhea may be suggestive of an intestinal infection and stool and blood tests should have helped to get a correct diagnosis and if infection is present a proper antibiotic active against intestinal infection could have solved this and other problems like bloating, cramps and burning.
GERD is well treated with addition of Domperidone and antacids round the clock as would be prescribed by your Doctor.
For us to say this being an IBS that is irritable bowel syndrome all the relevant tests of blood, stool, urine, CT scan, upper GI Endoscopy and colonoscopy should be normal.
If all the tests are normal get treated as IBS and needs a god control over anxiety and stress.
Also watch for the foods and beverages that instigate or enhance the problems and do not give such things to him.
