What Causes Gastric Ulcers Leading To Anemia?

I have recently been diagnosed with anemia. I have extreme fatigue and the hemoglobin has dropped to 7.5 within one month. An endoscopy has revealed one large user (about the size of a quarter) and two additional small ones. Do you have any idea how long this may have been developing?

Hi ! Good morning. I am Dr Shareef answering your query.

From your history, it seems to be quite a long time you had been developing this pathology in your stomach, which might be having an unsuspected microscopic bleeding which gradually caused you to be anaemic. You have to be under constant observation of your gastro enterologist considering the size of your ulcer which might need a histo pathological study of tissue from it. For a benign ulcer to heal, one has to go for a proton pump inhibitor drug at lest for six weeks followed by a maintenance dose. For anaemia, I would deworm you once, and then start iron medications to correct it.

I hope this information would help you in discussing with your family physician/treating doctor in further management of your problem. Please do not hesitate to ask in case of any further doubts.
Thanks for choosing health care magic to clear doubts on your health problems. Wishing you an early recovery. Dr Shareef.
