What Causes Gastritis, Abdomen Pain And Cramps After Taking Antibiotics?

Dear Doctor,

Few days back I was given medication for allergy in throat zimax, ponstan, antiacid capsule, cough syrup etc. The second day after having the dosage as per doctors advice I started building up gas in my stomach, headache and discomfort. The next morning (3rd day) I was very uncomfortable after breakfast and in the noon I vomited vigorously and then felt better for some time followed by weakness, stomach cramps and discomfort. I stopped all the medication and just had panadol xtra for headache and buscopan for stomach (center) pain. I still feel weak, tired, stomach pain and heavy head, wind. Please advice if this is a cause of concern. thanks.

Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history and understood your concerns.
You history of getting started with allergy in throat might have indeed be flu and that affected the stomach giving symptoms of headache, nausea, vomiting and so on.
Or the secondary symptoms might have been due to any of the medications as you have thought correctly.
I would advise you the following in such a situation:
Get examined by a Doctor for clinical diagnosis to be supported by the tests of stool and blood.
Once diagnosed well take the further management as per the guidelines given by your Doctor and till then continue with Panadol Extra and Buscopan as you have been taking.
Also take a PPI like Omeprazole for avoiding acidity related issues.
Take plenty of oral fluids and electrolyte solution to avoid dehydration and electrolyte imbalance.
I find this answer helpful
