What Causes Gastritis And Acid Reflux?

What can make you have gastritis daily and heartburn? I have had both daily for about a month. I have tried over the counter meds for both. The OTC meds that I have tried for the gastritis help some but not much. The OTC that I take for the heartburn usually help for the short term but returns the following afternoon.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Let me inform you that gastritis is the inflammatory condition of gastric region and once it is there then it demands the medical attention and underlying cause of it is matter of concern, it can be due to diet, it can be drug induced and it can be because of acid peptic disease, you have not mentioned the symptoms else it would have been differentiated well or confirmed, because it may not be the gastritis. Heart burning is nothing but the hyperacidity, and it may be one of the cause of gastritis, PPI (Proton pump inhibitor) is the best drug for it, Omeprazole can be tried once in day and it need to be continued for few weeks ( Depends upon the underlying cause and the age of patient) meanwhile it is advisable avoid taking spicy food, heavy meal, coffee, smoking and alcohol, eat more alkali diet, OTC is not advisable it may some time cause the gastritis.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
