What Causes Green Colored Bowels In A 9 Year Old?

Hi: My daughter, who is 9, had a moss green bowl movement. She said she had a stomach ach, but nothing else seems out of the ordinary. She is on meds for reflux, but she has been on that most her life, and this has never happened. I can t think of anything different or green that she has eaten lately. Any suggestions?

Pediatrician, Pulmonology 's  Response
Hi...what your kid is having is a bacterial or bacillary dysentery. Unless the kid's having low urine output or very dull or excessively sleepy or blood in motion or green bilious vomiting...you need not worry. But this age greenish diarrhoea is a definite indication for starting antibiotics. I suggest you consult your paediatrician.
