What Causes Grey Gum?

my baby has a grey gum where his front tooth has just come in in the last few days. There seems to also be a speck of grey on the actual tooth. There has beeno trauma that i know of to the tooth. Could there be something stuck between the gum or tooth? is it scabbing from teething or trauma? Perhaps in his crib during the night?
