What Causes Greying Of Tongue After Tonsillectomy?
My boyrfriend just had a Tonsillectomy about three days ago. I went to visit him and saw he had white stuff in the back of his throat. It looked like puss and I swore i saw some blood. After that, i also noticed he had started getting a black tongue. Most of his tongue and like a gray tint to it. What is this?
I have gone through your query and can understand..
As per your complain if you have seen pus over the back of his tongue it seems to be there is infection at the surgery site leading to pus formation.. The greying of tongue can be due to accumulation of debris and overgrowth of bacteria over the tongue leading to formation of a greyish black layer and is known as Black Hairy tongue.. It is a harmless condition and can be cleared off with regular cleaning of tongue with a tongue scraper.. You should consult your treating surgeon and get hos throat evaluated so that if there is infection he can advise him antibiotics and anti-inflammatory painkiller.. Gargle with warm saline also help.. For hairy tongue gargle with 1:1 solution of hydrogen peroxide and water atleast ten days later and clean your tongue with a tongue scrape..
Hope this information helps..
