What Causes Gurgling Noise In Stomach And Increase In Number Of Defecation?

Hi. For the past few months I have had to defecate about 4 times a day average and I feel like I have to after meals. My stomach is always making gurgling noises as well. As of yesterday my throat has started to hurt too but I assume that is completely unrelated to the bowel movements.

Hello,

Passing motion 4 times as day particularly after food, gurgling can be due to the following reasons:

- Gastroenteritis of chronic nature
- Colitis or other infective focus can cause such problems
- Enlarged lymph nodes in abdomen.

This can be diagnosed by the following:

- Tests of stool and blood. If infection is present then a course of an antibiotic can help a lot.

If no effect after antibiotics you need further investigations like:

- Upper GI Endoscopy and colonoscopy.
- CT scan of abdomen.
- Clinical evaluation by a Surgeon and further management as per the findings of the investigations.
- If all the investigations are normal then probable diagnosis is IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome), and then the control of stress and anxiety can help you a lot.
