What Causes Hand Tremors While On Prednisone?

I have RA and have been seeing my RA dr for about 6 years. I am on a 5mg prednisone maintenance routine at this time. is it possible that the prednisone is causing my hands to shake? This started about 3 weeks ago. Also, due to pain, my dr is suggesting that I change to a biologic. Good or bad drugs?

Hello,

It could be due to the side effects of Prednisone drug. Prednisone is an anti-inflammatory steroid commonly prescribed in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis.

Its common side effects include stomach ulcer, dyspepsia, increased blood glucose level, increased blood pressure, increased hair growth and acne, thinning of the bones, cataract, striae, edema, 'moon-like' face, fatigue, myopathy, delayed wound healing and opportunistic infections.

Although less common however it may also cause shaking of the hands that you cannot control, seizures and depression.

I advise you to consult your treating doctor immediately. You may need an alternate effective medication like biological agents or methotrexate to control the disease progression of RA.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali
