Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Good morning. What could cause my hands to swell during the night while I m sleeping? I am 45 years old, 5ft 8in and weigh 233 lbs. I would say that my health is fair. I have been told by my doctor that I have something that similiar to diabetes. Cannot remember what he called it.
Your symptoms could be related to tunnel carpal syndrome or arthritis. I recommend consulting with your attending physician for a physical exam and performing some tests: - Complete blood count, PCR, ESR - RF plasma levels - Vitamin D plasma levels for possible deficiency If you experience numbness of your hands during the night, performing nerve conduction studies will be necessary in order to investigate on possible tunnel carpal syndrome.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Ilir Sharka, Cardiologist
