What Causes Hard Neck Area Lumps With Pain And Tenderness?

I have 2 very small, like pea-sized, hard lumps between my neck and shoulders just to the right of the top knob of the spinal cord. They hurt to the touch, very tender. I also have an extraordinarily stiff neck when I try to turn my head to the right. I did take a 16 hr plane ride last week, and that is exactly when I found them. I also am fighting a cold, and just started malaria pills (doxycycline) recently. Otherwsie healthy. Thoughts?

General Surgeon 's  Response
hi.

it is best if you consult with a doctor, preferably a general surgeon, for medical and physical examination. two things to consider primarily based from your description: 1. a possible cervical lymphadenopathy (inflamed lymph node) probably secondary to a recent upper respiratory tract infection 2. a possible lesion of thyroid gland in origin. other considerations may be fibroma, lipoma or cyst.. clinical examination from your doctor will be of great help. further diagnostic examination such as neck ultrasound, ct-scan or x-ray and subsequent management (medical and/or surgical if indications are found) will be directed accordingly.

hope this helps.

good day!!
