What Causes Headache And Nausea After Weaning Off Tryptomer?

Hi, I have been diagnosed mild RA and doctor has prescribed tryptomer 10mg. I am having this for last 3 months and when suddenly I have stopped having this for last 1week, am feeling heavy headache and nausea. Why this has been prescribed when I do not have any depression related issues? Thanks

Hello, Welcome to Health Care Magic

I can understand your concern. Tryptomer is Amitriptyline and the drug is an antidepressant drug. The drug is used in a number of conditions like depression, anxiety, insomnia, headache, migraine, even in pain conditions. So most likely they have prescribed the drug to you for pain in mild RA. The drug helps to improve neurotransmission in brain and if stopped abruptly after regular intake there occur severe withdrawal. The doses of the drug you were taking were not very high so you have suffered mild withdrawal in form of headache, nausea etc symptoms. As you stopped the drug cold turkey a week back so in such situations there is no need to panic. These symptoms will respond to low doses of Clonazepam or even Propranolol. Both these drugs will improve headache and will ease withdrawal. Visit a psychiatrist for prescription.

Thanks, hope this helps you. Take Care
