What Causes Headache, Confusion And Sleeplessness After Falling Down?

my father, age 93, had a very bad fall a few days ago. he went to the hospital and was discharged the same day and he was told that he did not have a concussion. Today, 5 days later, he felt lethargic, had a headache, not being able to sleep and was confused. Of course being a WWII vet he can be very stubborn and does not want to go back to the doctor. He has a very black eye and cheek and also his other eye turned black. He did see and ophthalmologist yesterday and everything checked out okay. What do you suggest we do or should rest help relieve these symptoms? Thank you

Thank You for contacting HCM.

An intracranial bleed can occur due to fall and it not be diagnosed on CT Head after few hrs of injury. So it depends when the scan was done earlier. I would suggest following:
> Take rest.
> Avoid sternous activity.
> For headache acetaminophen can be taken.
> Take a cloth piece and heat over flame so that it becomes warm, then place it over the eye. It will give soothing effect. Black eye is due to blood accumulation under skin.

Report to hospital (preferably to neurosurgeon as he is specialized in head trauma cases) if:
> Condition remain same after 2-3 days
> Any unusual symptom appears
> Condition deteriorates.
> He looses conscious or has altered state & talks irrelevant things.
