What Causes Headache, Nausea, Tiredness And Loss Of Appetite?

My daughter has had headaches, nauseous stomach and congestion off and on for 10-12 days. Seems to get worse with exercise to the point of feeling like she is going to vomit but does not. Appetite is not what it is normally, very tired. How do I know if it is just a virus or if it is mono or strep or worse. Seems like too long for just a virus

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

For both the infections you mention the best way to diagnosis is starting with a visit with the doctor as clinical presentation, including findings in physical examination, are quite important in determining which is the likely cause of her symptoms and possible needed tests.

There is a blood test for mononucleosis that she can have, and make sure if this is mono or not.
As for the strep throat, if she has a sore throat she may have a rapid test for strep infection or culture to confirm or rule out this infection.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
