Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Headaches Along With Vertigo And Hearing Loss?
50-year-old woman is admitted with chief complaints of headache and decreased range of motion in her neck. She also complains of vertigo, hearing loss in one ear, profuse sweating, and uncontrollable eye movements. Her past medical history indicates that she was in a motor vehicle accident three days before her admission. What specific diagnostic examinations would you recommend? Why?
Hello. I have gone through your question and understand your concern. Any trauma to head should be kept in observation for symptoms of hemorrhage. A simple x ray skull should have been done at the emergency department of the hospital to rule it out. As i understand this was not the case and patient did not go to the hospital following the road traffic accident.
A patient with symptoms of vertigo, hearing loss and headache, I would suspect a brain hemorrhage. As due to hemorrhage the intracranial blood pressure would increase and result in similar complaints.
And would advise to follow up the x ray with CT scan if there where any findings of concern in the x ray skull. A CT or MRI scan will identify the hemorrhage in the brain and help in identifying the hematoma.
