What Causes Headaches And Fatigue When Suffering From Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura?

I was just diagnosed with ITP After being sick for several months. I feel awful..... Achy, weak, mild headache, extremely fatigued..... Like I have the flu. My hematologist says this is unrelated to my platelets (they were at 13, now at 44 after dexamethasone). He wants to remove my spleen. I think this is premature as I believe my ITP is secondary, not primary. I think I may have Lymes or a parasite.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Based on the history you have shared, you are suffering from ITP and its a disease of exclusion. Your hematologist must have worked up for all the other possible causes of low platelets.

Plus if your platelets improved after dexamethasone injection then the diagnosis of ITP is more likely.

The fatigues and pains you mentioned are less likely due to ITP but you can have other issues kike low Hemoglobin or calcium or Vitamin D deficiency.

I would recommend you to start multivitamins and calcium supplements and see the response. If still no use then get your complete blood profile.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
