What Causes Heart Burn With Running Stools & Migraines?

ive been in and out of the Dr.s for the last few weeks. I was in a car accident on February this year. ive been doing injections in my neck and waiting for them to decide if i need shoulder surgery. I ve been taking a lot of pain pills and muscle relaxers. I ve been having a lot of heartburn, running stool, migraines, ive been overly tired and been sleeping 14 to 16 hours a day for 3 to 4 days in a row. Then I will have a normal couple days of normal 5-7 hours of sleep. My dr has done lots of blood test. I don t have thyroid problems I don t have mono I don t have the flu. My red blood cell count is 11 million and no one will tell me what that means other than don t take IBProphen and stop drinking alcohol. I m not an excessive drinker but I do take a lot of IBprophen. they have now taken a B-12 tole test.

Hi,
Welcome to HCM.

Heart burn or stomach burning is a commonest symptom seen nowadays.

Can you tell me of are there any specific diet after which you have burning inside stomach.

The causes of heart burn, running stool with migraine could be excess stomach acid or acute gastritis, gastroenteritis, gastric ulcer or Helicobacter pylori infection or food allergy or stress or drug induced.

You must undergo routine blood investigations and H.pylori, liver function tests, urinalysis and stool for blood, abdominal ultrasound and upper gastrointestinal endoscopy to detect the underlying cause.

Treatment is mainly depend on the cause but you may take symptomatic treatment meanwhile.

Avoid pain killer and muscle relaxants unnecessarily or take them only after your doctor's advise.

Antacids like h2 blockers (ranitidine) or proton pump inhibitors (pantoprazole or rabeprazole) will help to reduce excess acid production in stomach.

You can also take digene gel or liquid or ulcero-protective agents like sucralfate or bismuth subsallicylate to reduce the burning sensation.

Apart from medications you should,

1) eat plain foods like boiled rice and green leafy vegetables without adding spices or oil. It will help to neutriluze digestive acids and also they are easily digestible means there will be no need of extra stomach acid.

2) avoid oily, spicy and fast foods

3) avoid eating full stomach at a time rather have small meals frequently.

4) drink coconut water will help to reduce burning.

5) eat lots of fruits like banana and watermelon.

6) avoid excess tea and coffee.

7) eat or drink buttermilk and yogurt twice daily.

8) chew ginger which releases stomach gases.

9) do morning exercises like walking or jogging which will reduce your stress level.

Consult gastroenterologist for detailed medical history and clinical examination to diagnose the cause.
