What Causes Heart Palpitations During Night?

My mother, 87 years old, was told she has rapid heart palpitations during the night according to the results of 24 hr heart monitor. She does not have shortness of breath, no pain at all. Is taking medicine for dizziness at times; one of her medications(Fluoxetine HCL 20 mg states it can cause dizziness. She has never had heart problems. Takes meds for high blood pressure, memory, and diabetes.

Fluoxetine is not likely to be the cause of her rapid heart rate as detected on the monitor. During certain phases of sleep, heart rate can be high. It is normal. If there is irregular heart rhythm, the cardiologist will be able to decide whether it is harmless arrhythmia (irregular heart beat) or an arrhythmia that needs to be treated with medicines.
Since your mother is comfortable and has no pain or shortness of breath, you should not worry.
