What Causes Heavy And Long Periods At Age Of 52?

I am 52 years old and am still having a menstral cycle that lately has been lasting 8 to 9 days. My doctor had a blood test done a year ago and he said the test said I had no estrogen in my body and he said that my ovaries felt small so he felt I would no longer have periods. However I still was, so he put me on Provera for 12 days out of each month. My periods quit for three months after taking this for 3 months but now they are back, this being my 3rd month of having a period... The periods are heavy and are lasting longer in days then prior. Should I be concerned something else is wrong? And I really don t want to be on Provera since I heard it may cause cyst in the breast. I am also a smoker... Thank you, Sherry

Hi,

It can happen among women nearing their menopause. You can take drugs like Tranexamic acid to control bleeding.

If symptoms persist, better to consult a gynaecologist and you might require DnC for further management.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
