What Causes Heavy Menstruation With High Platelet Count And Anemia?

My daughter has been told she has a high platelet count, she is anemic, and she ha elevated numbers to do with a count of something in her blood for ovarian cancer. She has had extreme menstruateion. To the point of using maxi pads and depends. She is 40 years old. She has no one else to turn to. She needs surgery but won t follow through with the hematologist treatment. She is 40 years old, had a very good career. Owned property in Fla. Sad thing is, she is mentally ill. A couple of years ago she had some kind of break down. She has bee diagnosed as s. schizophrenic. Bi- polar, dylutional and on more than one occasion became catatonic. She lies about her medicine for her mental illness. She hears voices and responds to them. She needs more than me to help her. But I have no idea how to get that for her. She refuses care. I m afraid her blood problem is getting worse. Along with her mental illness. What can I do. She is so disrespectful to me and seems at times to hold some kind of grudge toward me. I am 65 years old. I have 2 other daughter that are fine. I do notknow exactly what I am asking. Just anything I can do to help her, and myself?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Really sorry to hear about her problems. I can understand the fact how difficult is to manage such situations.

Her anaemia is likely to be because of her menstrual problems, and her mental health where she may not be taking enough foods.

This should be worked up to exactly know why her blood is low. Few tests are done which tell us why blood is low. The elevated platelets is a normal response when blood is low.

The elevated marker of ovarian cancer also needs proper follow up with scans. This may be another reason of her low blood. This need urgent care.

Mental health problems are difficult to manage. However, if she had a problem with her medicines x you should express this with her doctors x as there are certain drugs which may be given once in 6 weeks as an injection.

That are best for such patients who don't take care of drugs. So discuss with her psychiatrist.

There are a number of services offered for such patients, you may ask about that.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
