What Causes Hiccups After Undergoing Hernia Surgery?

My father is 66 and he had a laproscopic hernia surgery about 5 days ago. He is having hiccups and they wont stop. there is no pain on the site of surgery but the hiccups are a concern to us. Are hiccups after the surgery normal? Is there anything we can do to stop those hiccups?

* There are different causes which can give hiccups as
- post general anesthesia related - side effects of antibiotics , analgesics
- gastritis - indigestion - others .

* This is not normal , must be addressed with the surgeon .
