What Causes Hiccups Post Epidural Steroid Shot Intake?

I had a epidural steroid injection at hospital 33 hours ago. I now have hiccups and cannot sleep or think because I hiccup every 7 seconds. I read hiccups are a possible side effect after such procedure. Benadryl is a med that may stop the hiccups? Thanks Ron

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Hiccups is quite common after general anesthesia and epidural shot. Nothing to worry and it will subside in couple of days. You can take Baclofen or Reglan which is quite effective in controlling hiccups. Breathing in to a plastic bag for few minutes can also help you.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
