What Causes High Blood Pressure?

I am afraid that I have high blood pressure, when I take it it ranges from the high 130's to the early 150's. I am under a lot of stress and work long hours. I take my blood pressure at home to check on my BP and try to lesson my sodium. I am too terrified to go to the hospital becuase I do not want to be put on medication. What would you suggest for me?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
hello and thank you for asking HCM,

I understand your concern because of using medication, but I have to say that it is much more dangerous to have high blood pressure for a long period than to take daily medication.
High blood pressure is a so called silent killer, because this is a condition which gives no symptoms until it is actually to late.
So my advice is to overcome your fear and visit your GP to get proper examination.
You should also, as you already do, intake less salt and do more excercise and keep your weight normal.

I hope this answer was helpful to you.
