What Causes Imbalance?

Hello Doctor, I had a shunt put in in November 2013 and in five months that quit working and they had to replace it in November 2014. I do not have any dizziness just no balance and have fallen several times. I am 73 years old and in good health. Is there any physical therapy that would help me get my balance back. I have always had excellent balance before this. Thank you very much Respectfully Yours, Joe Callahan

Hi,
Thanks for asking.
Based on your query, my opinion is as follows.
1. Shunt should not or any cardiac cause should not affect balance.
2. Possible vestibular cause or cerebellar cause responsible for loss of balance.
3. Physiotherapy, balance training and walking stick can be helpful for balance.
4. Meet a neurologist to rule out any pathological cause.
Hope it helps.
Any further queries, happy to help again
