Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had a total shoulder replacement with titanium ball and pipe 20 years ago.i have recently had an infection in my elbow of same arm. I did not injure said elbow in any way,,it just became swollen and very painful.what would be the cause of thisin your opinion?
Hello,Thanks for your query. After going through your query I came to know that you your elbow swollen and very painful. It may be likely to be septic arthritis if you also has fever as it is very painful. Cause of this may be some blood born infection due to decreased immunity. Its treatment is antibiotics and analgesic such as ibuprofen. It may require incision and drainage by operation.Biopsy can be taken to add further in diagnosis. You can discuss with your treating Doctor about it. I do hope that you have found something helpful. If you have additional questions or follow up queries then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your queries. Wishing you good health. Take care.
