Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Intense Right Sided Abdominal Pain Post Gall Bladder Removal?
My sister called me and said she is having intense right sided pain in her abdomen and is swollen in the same area. I'm an RN, not an MD. I can usually help her but this is puzzling. She has already had her gall bladder removed. Can you give me some idea as to what it could be and does she possibly need to go to the ER?

1. Patient's who have undergone cholecystectomy usually suffer either from dysfunction of Oddi sphincter, or post cholecystectomy syndrome [if no other apparent cause is found] caused either by bile leaking into stomach or gallstone left in the bile duct with elevated calcium and liver enzymes with low phosphorus level.
2. If the symptoms persists despite taking medication contact your general Physician or Surgeon for further line of management.
