What Causes Irregular Periods In Spite Of Being On Birth Control?

Hello there, I am confused what is happening to my body! I am on birth control but I got my period late, instead of getting my period on the green pills I got it on the first white pill. Could I be pregnant or is it just a late period. When I urinate there is a tone of blood on the tissue but when I put a pad on, no blood ever goes on it, only every time I wipe. What could be happening to me?

Hi,

Usually, it is not a matter of concern. Irregularity in the menstrual cycle is a normal side effect of Birth control pills. This irregularity may be in the form of spotting, irregular bleeding, period may be heavy or light, menstruation cycle may be shorter or longer and even menstruation may be absent for some period.

However, these are usually transient side effects and resolve themselves, once the body becomes adapted to the changed hormone levels. However, if the bleeding is severe or some other agonizing symptoms are present, then you are advised to see your doctor and treatment done accordingly. Though birth control pills are very effective with a minimal failure rate, still, if in doubt, then HPT is advised to confirm / rule out the pregnancy.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
