What Causes Irregular Periods With Abdominal Cramping And Back Ache?
Since sept 1, 2014. I have only had 3 periods. I have not had a period in 8 weeks. I have horrible heartburn, indigestion, abdominal cramping, extreme lower back ache and I am abstaining from sex. I am 36 yr old female mother of 5. My dr gave me meds in oct because I hadn't had a period in since aug. He doesn't seem concerned but I have experienced weight gain of 25 lbs in 4 months without changing my diet. What do you think could be my problem? My insurance was terminated and my new one will not start until May 1, or I probably would have already been to the dr again. Is there anything I should ask my dr to check for? Holly
Infectious Diseases Specialist, Dr. Harshita's Response
Hi,
1. Increase weight gain with irregular periods is a sign of polycystic ovarian disease (multiple cysts >15 in one or both the ovaries)
This disease is supposed to cause acne, hair on the face and weight gain to an extreme if not taken seriously.
2. So my advice to you is to visit your gynecologist nearby and get an ultrasound of pelvis done to see the status of your ovaries.
3. Get treatment as early as possible to prevent further ill effects and burden on the ovaries.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Harshita, Infectious Diseases Specialist
