What Causes Joint Pain In Fingers, Wrists And Elbows?
hi, my wife is suffering from joint pain in small joints such as finger joints, wrists, elbow. it started just a couple of months back. the pain is more on her right side. she feels stiffness in these joints in the morning which fades away in 30-45 minutes. we got her blood test done for rheumatoid factor twice from different laboratories, but it comes negative. kindly suggest me what may be the probable cause.

General & Family Physician, Dr. Nishad BN's Response
Hi Thank you for asking HCM. I have gone through your query. As your wife has multiple small joint pain and early morning stiffness, it is most likely a systemic arthritis like rheumatoid arthritis. Rheumatoid arthritis can be present even if RA factor is negative. Such case is called seronegative rheumatoid arthritis. But in that case also when disease is active ESR will be elevated. You should better have a consultation with rheumatologist or orthopedician to rule out this. If it is confirmed then DMARDs and physical therapy may benefit you. Hope this may help you. Let me know if you have any further queries.
