Hello,

It's due to the side effect of statins. Statins are commonly prescribed to lower high blood cholesterol levels. Generally, they're well tolerated however their most common side effects include stomach upset, myopathy and liver dysfunction.

Myopathy (muscle tenderness, muscle pain, or weakness) can lead on to rhabdomyolysis (the breakdown of muscle protein) which can cause kidney damage. So, you are advised to stop taking a statin and consult your treating doctor for an alternate effective but a safer medication to lower your high blood cholesterol.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali
