Hi,I am Dr. Andrew Rynne (Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Lack Of Appetite And Partial Memory Loss In An Elderly?
I'm concerned about my father. He is 83 years old and recently has lost his appetite. He is quick to anger, seems to drool a bit and has no energy. Some behaviour makes me suspect short-term memory loss. I know it's difficult to provide guidance with such limited information. Still, I thought I'd try, in case this combination of symptoms points to a common circumstance. Thank you.
Hi! I suggest that your father be given vitamin B complex for memory problems as it has been proven effective in these situations. He can be given medications like piracetam and vinpocetin in addition to this. The loss of appetite can be due to a gastric issue, that can be handled with pantoprazole in most geriatric cases. Thanks. Dr. Neel Kudchadkar
