What Causes Light Brown Clot Discharge Instead Of Periods?

Hi, so I was supposed to start my period a week ago, and instead it's this weird dark brown, clotty, discharge. It's really light and I don't even need to wear a tampon, but it's only when I really wipe that I see it's clotty. Im sorry about how gross this sounds.
