What Causes Light Period?

Hi. My previous period came a week early and was normal flow. However my current period came 12 days late and its been really light but continous dark brown flow of blood for 6 days. I never experienced this before, however I have just started on the pill. but it was already brown when I started. I am not sure what this means? I had sex but we always used protection

If you are on the pill than there is nothing to worry because it is caused by the use of contraception.
