What Causes Loose Motion, Vomiting In A Kid?

Hello My son is 5 months old. And is having loose motions from last two days, frequency is 5-6 times a day. From last night I am giving him Powergyl. But still there is no change in his condition. With loose motion, he is vomiting also. Is due to weather change as I have to come to Northern part of the country from Delhi. And yes he is on breast feed. Regards

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice. I noted the history about your 5 month old son having 5 to 6 loose motions per day and there is vomiting also. You gave Powergyl but still there is no difference. He is breast fed and still feel that this is due to weather change. When the baby is breast fed, the infection comes through the nipples of mother and simple cleaning of the nipples with spirit and allow it to evaporate may be sufficient to get rid and to avoid such problems.

Also send the samples of stool for lab and if there is an infection. Powergyl or another antibiotic needs to be given as there is vomiting also. You should consult the Pediatrician as a combination of loose motions and vomiting can turn the baby into dehydration and electrolyte imbalance easily hence should be under expert's advise.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards.
