Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Loose Motion With Cramps Persistently?
Hello, My brother who is 26 years old, is having continuous loose motion for past 1-2 months, however, there is no other symptoms. Although he does have cramps sometimes. There is no odd smell in the stool, and the color of the stool is yellow/normal, and neither he have gas or any other problem. Sometimes the stool gets normal, but its only once or twice in few days or weeks. If he takes loose motion OTC medicine (then it gets fine for a day but again back to loose motion without medicines). Please advise. Thanks.
Loose motions with cramps can occur due to the following reasons:
IBS means irritable bowel syndrome. All the relevant investigations will be normal.
Other reasons can be intolerance with certain foods and beverages. Hence I would advise him the following:
Tests of stool for three consecutive days. And get treated if there any positive findings say for example treatment with antibiotics, metronidazole if there an intestinal infection.
Tests of blood and urine.
CT scan of the abdomen.
Colonoscopy if indicated and advised by your Gastroenterologist.
Management as per the findings.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
