What Causes Loss Of Appetite While Having A Fever?
Hi, may I answer your health queries right now ? Please type your query here My 15 year old has a fever of 103 and does not want to eat. She has gone all day without eating or drinking. When I got home I gave her a cup of orange juice and she drank it. now she is working on a glass of sprite. Is it ok that she does not want food?
Fever gives a bad taste in mouth and sort of aversion for food hence she may not be taking anything orally. It is good that she has taken at least orange juice, and in spite but it may not be sufficient for maintaining hydration. Hence I would advise her following in such a situation: First of all, see that she has no fever as you have mentioned and if present gives her paracetamol as per her weight and see the results. Cold sponging helps to reduce fever. If this does not solve her problems, it is better to take her to the emergency room or your doctor to get a clinical evaluation, examination and have investigations if advised so to get a probable diagnosis and have proper management. Keep her well hydrated.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. T Chandrakant
