What Causes Loss Of Balance And Headache?

I woke up today with severe loss of balance along with a massive headache with the left side of my face feeling heavy and strange. Every time I lay down I feel like everything is spinning and just feel so weak today. Not sure what is going on because I was fine when I went to bed last night.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

This sounds like an episode of migraine. The severe headache with vertigo is a very common feature of migraine. However, before we consider migraine, there should be a history of headaches even before (a history that you have not mentioned). In case this is a first time headache, more severe conditions like a stroke and hemorrhage need to be considered. In this latter situation, you will need to go to the ER immediately. In the former case, a painkiller may suffice. A third possibility is BPPV. But as I said, the stroke and hemorrhage need to be ruled out first.

Let us know the details for further information.

Best wishes.
